ARTIST STATEMENT
Stop. Listen. Observe. React.
Adopting this process as a multidisciplinary artist and educator allows my creativity and solutions to flow meaningfully from within myself. Informed by my professional experiences and training in dance, art, theatre, and music, I create with passion, precision, and humor. Being trilingual, intercontinental, and queer, I have had the honor of collaborating with artists from so many different backgrounds, which has enriched my search for finding beauty not just in others but in myself as well.
BIOGRAPHY
Andy Travis is a quirky bird who has found his nest in the world of theatre. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska (USA), Andy spread his wings and flew to study fine arts and performing arts at universities in Minnesota and Chicago (B.F.A Theatre Performance, 2003; Ballet Chicago 2001-2003), to refine his dance abilities at academies in New York City (Alvin Ailey & Broadway Dance Center, 2006-2009), and to learn movement theatre in Barcelona, Spain (Estudis de Teatre Berty Tovías, 2011-2014).
After receiving such amazing tutelage during those years, Andy found his strengths not just as a performer and visual artist, but also as a leader by teaching English and Spanish to non-native speakers in different cities for over a decade (Trinity CertTESOL, 2012; DELE C1, 2021). Constantly evolving, he plans to start a theatre company after completing an M.F.A. within the years to come so that he can share his knowledge and passion for future audiences. Being trilingual, intercontinental, and queer, Andy is constantly grateful for how these qualities continue to enrich him and his art every day.
